Longueuil: the 2025 rules for your driveway
Since July 21, 2025, Longueuil’s three boroughs have new planning by-laws, with identical wording for residential driveways. Longueuil has about 40,400 houses.
- Redoing at the same size: restoring a surface is not a trigger listed in the by-law. The certificate covers work “for laying out, re-laying out or enlarging a parking area […] or a curb cut”.
- Front-yard width: parking for a 1–3 dwelling house is limited to the smaller of 7.5 m or 50% of the lot width.
- The curb cut: $136 certificate; work done by the City’s contractor about 8 weeks later, sometimes postponed to the next year. Curb sawing: $226 up to 4 m, then $57 per metre (2026).
- Documents: a signed certificate of location and an annotated copy of the current and planned area, online at permisenligne.longueuil.quebec.
- Large parking lots: an area of 500 m² or more needs at least 20% of its surface with a solar reflectance index of at least 29, permeable, or draining to a green space.
