Every answer is the one we would give you on the job site.

How much does an asphalt driveway cost in Quebec?

In 2026 in Greater Montréal, a fully rebuilt driveway costs about $6 to $10 per square foot ($2,400–4,000 for a 400 ft² double driveway), resurfacing $3–5.50 and sealcoating $0.30–0.45. The exact price depends on the surface area, the condition of the base and access to the site. We give you a clear quote, free and with no obligation, after an on-site visit. The six factors that make the price vary are explained on our Asphalt Paving Prices page.

When is the best time to pave in Quebec?

From May to October, when the ground temperature lets hot asphalt compact properly. The schedule fills up in the order quotes are accepted: asking for yours early gives you the choice of date.

How long does it take to pave a driveway?

Most residential driveways are paved in a single day. If a new foundation is needed, count on one day of preparation, then paving in the following days.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Our paving work is guaranteed against installation and material defects. The terms of the warranty are in your quote, not just said over the phone.

Asphalt or paving stones: which should you choose?

Asphalt costs considerably less to install, goes down in a day and is easy to repair. Paving stones offer more design options but cost considerably more to install and need their joints maintained. For a durable, affordable driveway in Quebec, asphalt remains the most popular choice.

Which cities do you serve?

Montreal, Laval, Terrebonne, Mascouche, Repentigny, Blainville, Boisbriand, Sainte-Thérèse, Rosemère, Lorraine, Bois-des-Filion, Saint-Eustache, Mirabel, L’Assomption, as well as Longueuil and Brossard on the South Shore.

Do I need a permit to redo my driveway?

It depends on the city and the project. Many cities require a permit or a certificate of authorization to build, modify or enlarge a parking area, and several also regulate curb and sidewalk cuts. In Mirabel, for example, a residential parking area does not need one but cutting the curb does; in Lorraine, paving a driveway falls under a certificate of authorization. Confirm your case with your City before you sign: each city page summarizes what its City says and links to its official page.

When should you apply sealer to a new driveway?

About 6 to 12 months after paving, once the new asphalt has finished curing, then every 3 to 5 years depending on use. Sealing too early traps the oils instead of protecting the surface.

How thick are the asphalt and stone layers you install?

Generally 6 to 8 inches of compacted crushed stone and 2 to 3 inches of compacted asphalt for a residential driveway; more for a commercial parking lot or an area with truck traffic. The thicknesses planned for your project are stated in the quote: after compaction, not “as laid”.

How long before I can park on my new driveway?

We recommend waiting 3 to 5 days in hot weather before parking a car on it, and avoiding turning the wheels while stopped for the first few weeks.

How long does an asphalt driveway last in Quebec?

It depends first on the foundation, the drainage and the maintenance. A driveway built on a base compacted in layers, with proper slopes and sealer applied at the right time, gets through many winters; a driveway laid on a thin base cracks within the first few. During the visit, we explain what your base can support.

Does the old asphalt need to be removed, or can you pave over it?

If the base is sound, resurfacing over it is possible and more economical. If the driveway is sunken or badly cracked, we rebuild the foundation. We tell you honestly which of the two options is right for you.

Can you pave over a gravel driveway?

Not directly. The gravel of a temporary driveway is rarely thick enough or compacted enough to serve as a foundation. We check what’s in place, top up or rebuild the base with compacted crushed stone, then pave. That’s what keeps you from redoing the work a few years later.

Do I need a permit to widen my driveway?

It depends on the city and the project. Many cities require a permit or a certificate to build or modify a parking area, and to create a curb cut or touch the sidewalk or curb. Rules vary from one municipality to the next (and from one borough to the next in Montreal): your city page summarizes what its City says, and we tell you where to check before you start.

Can you work at night or on weekends?

Depending on the project, the work can be scheduled outside your business hours so your customers aren’t affected. We discuss it during the site survey, and the agreed hours are set out in the schedule.

Do you do parking lot line striping?

Striping can be included in the quote on request: stalls, arrows, reserved and accessible spaces. Mention it in your request so it’s included from the start.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

A maintenance follow-up (inspection, crack repair and sealcoating) can be offered to extend the life of your lot and spread out the costs. Mention your interest in your request and we’ll send you a proposal.

How do you keep my parking lot accessible during the work?

We divide the lot into zones and work one zone at a time, keeping the main access points open. The order of the phases, the days and the hours are agreed with you and set out in the schedule before day one, so you can notify your tenants or your customers.

Do you handle curbs and catch basins?

Redoing a parking lot often includes adjusting the existing catch basins and installing or repairing curbs, because that’s what controls the water. What’s planned for your site is detailed step by step in the quote.

Will the repair show?

A repaired section is visible at first (darker asphalt), then blends in over time. Sealcoating the whole surface evens out the colour.

At what point should I redo instead of repair?

When the damage is spread over a large part of the surface, or the base is sinking in several places, redoing generally becomes more cost-effective than piling up repairs. That’s what we assess on site, and we give you both options, with their price.

Do you repair cracks before winter?

Yes, as long as the temperature allows. Closing a crack in the fall keeps water from getting in and freezing over the winter: it’s the most cost-effective repair of the year. Past a certain cold, we postpone to spring rather than do work that won’t hold.

Does a cold-patched pothole hold up?

Rarely beyond one season. Cold asphalt is a temporary fix that doesn’t bond with the surface around it. Our method (clean saw cut, recompacted base, hot-mix asphalt, sealed joints) treats the cause and makes the repair last.

How often should sealer be applied?

Every 3 to 5 years for a residential driveway, more often for a high-traffic parking lot.

Can a new driveway be sealed right away?

No: you need to wait 6 to 12 months for the new asphalt to finish curing before the first application.

Does sealer make asphalt slippery?

A commercial-grade sealer, applied correctly, doesn’t make the surface slippery once dry. Some products contain an anti-slip additive, useful on slopes. We choose the product for your driveway and specify it in the quote.

How long before I can drive on it?

Allow 24 to 48 h of drying depending on temperature and humidity before parking a car on it. We confirm the exact wait on the day of application, and we advise against turning the wheels while stopped for the first few days.

Does resurfacing last as long as a new driveway?

On a sound base, a resurfacing done right (tack coat, hot-mix asphalt, roller compaction) performs like a new surface. On a sunken base, it won’t last: that’s why we always assess the base before proposing it.

Does it raise the level of my driveway?

Yes, by about 1.5 to 2 inches. We handle the transitions with the garage, the sidewalk and the street for a smooth result.

Does resurfacing fix sunken spots?

No. A sunken spot comes from the base, and a new layer on top doesn’t repair it: the dip comes back. A minor sunken spot can be corrected locally before resurfacing; multiple sunken spots mean the foundation has to be rebuilt. We tell you clearly during the visit.

What do you do at the transition with the garage?

The new layer is gradually tapered as it approaches the threshold to avoid a step, or the old surface is milled across the width of the transition. Same thing at the sidewalk and the street. The result: a smooth transition, with no lip to catch the shovel or hold water.

How thick does the foundation need to be?

Generally 6 to 8 inches of compacted stone for a residential driveway, 10 to 12 inches and more for a commercial parking lot, depending on the soil and the load.

How long does the excavation take?

A standard residential driveway is prepared in one day; paving generally follows within the next few days.

What happens to the old asphalt?

It’s loaded and hauled to an authorized site where it’s recycled: asphalt gets reused. Concrete and soil are disposed of the same way, by the rules. Removal is included in the quote, not billed as an extra.

Do you locate utility lines before digging?

Yes, always. Before any excavation, we file a locate request with Info-Excavation for gas, electrical and telecommunications lines, and we identify the private services with you (drain, irrigation, lighting). It’s the first step of the job, not an option.
