What’s included
- Full set-up: frame, cover stretched and aligned, doors and windows in place.
- Placement to your city’s rules: distance from the sidewalk, curb, hydrant and corner, ranging from 0.3 m off the sidewalk in Montréal-Nord to 3 m from the pavement in L’Assomption and Sainte-Thérèse (streets with no sidewalk or curb).

In Montréal, the Anjou, Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Verdun boroughs open on November 1 and Lachine on November 15 (former town of Saint-Pierre only), while LaSalle, Outremont, Saint-Laurent and Nuns’ Island ban temporary shelters. In the West Island, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Kirkland, Beaconsfield, Pointe-Claire, Baie-D’Urfé and Senneville ban them too, as does the Town of Mount Royal, each under its zoning by-law. All 16 cities and 19 boroughs: Tempo shelter dates by city.
Anchoring in asphalt without damaging the driveway
Tempo recommends U-shaped (cavalier) anchors, with the nails driven in an X, or permanent anchors on asphalt: two at each end, 12 in. from the edge, and never more than 10 ft between two anchors on one side, which means at least 4 anchors up to 12 ft long, 6 for 16–20 ft and 8 for 24–32 ft. A permanent anchor needs a 7/8 in. hole, drilled once to the depth its maker specifies; the nails of U-shaped anchors make new holes every fall. We’re pavers: we drill away from cracks and crumbling edges, and close the holes that are no longer used. Concrete blocks and loose weights are out: Tempo calls them dangerous and they void the warranty.

With an asphalt repair, on the same visit
A crack under the shelter stays open all winter: water gets in, freezes and widens it. If you call us for an asphalt repair, we hot-seal the cracks (about $3 per linear foot), then set the shelter up over them, with no second trip.
